Adventures on the Sailing Vessel Moorea

Moorea & Crew

We cut the dock lines from Everett, WA in the summer, 2005 to embark on a world circumnavigation in our sailboat, named Moorea, a 35' Dufour Sloop.

Back in the Pacific, we plan to bash our way north from Panama to Washington, returning by fall 2009.

We will keep you posted along the way of our adventures.

        Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Completing the circle

On May 11, 2009 we sailed into Bahia de Banderas (Bay of Flags) with all of the flags from each nation we visited.  Over 30,000 nautical miles navigated and 31 countries, it was nice to tie the ends and sail across our line.

We were very productive in Puerto Vallarta, hauling out Moorea to sand and paint the bottom.  Visitors came down, my cousin Ann and her husband Mark from Minnesota decided to warm up for a few days.  The town was quiet since many people were avoiding Mexico due to the Swine Flu scare, plus the bad economy didn’t help either, but we had a good time with our family and the best day was snorkeling and swimming in the bay.

Next we sailed to Cabo San Lucas arriving around 2 am, we put on jackets and pants while entering the bay.  It’s hard to believe we were cold, when in Puerto Vallarta, the heat was so intense.  We had another visit with long time friend Nikki, she and her family are starting a business in Cabo and she showed us around town.

Now we are in Ensenada, just 60 miles south of San Diego.  We moved quickly up the Baja since the winds had died down a bit and we took full advantage of the calm weather to keep moving north.  New Photos to check out of Mexico.
