Moorea meeting other boats

From All Walks of Life

Cruisers have one thing in common, they live on their boat while sailing around, some choose to sail in there local areas, others cruise to a specific country or a few plan world circumnavigations.  Other than that, we all come from different walks of life with their own reasons for wonder lust.  But the best part of cruising is meeting this interesting eclectic group and making a few friends.

Luna

Bart, Dagmar and daughter, Soliel started their circumnavigation from Holland.  Planning to finish the trip this year, they will sell their boat and hope to settle in Hawaii where they have a partnership in a surf shop and had previously lived for five years.

We met this couple in Darwin, Australia through the Ohana Kai, kid boat connection.  Sharing anchorages with them has been a treat and catching a few waves a tone of fun.

De Pelikaan

Vincent & Iris along with their children, River and Roxy will complete their circumnavigation from Holland in August 2008.  They are returning a home and business they left in the care of family.

We all cruised together through Indonesia along with Ohana Kai and have many memories to cherish.

Ohana Kai

We met Bruce, Lisa and their two sons, Tristan and Matthew at San Diego on Halloween in 2005.  We would bump into each other at various locations and began cruising together in French Polynesia.

We have shared many anchorages and seen some unique sights along the way, Rom dancing in Vanuatu, an unexpected eruption of Krakatoa, and monkey parks in Bali.

Like us, they plan to complete a circumnavigation.

Sand Piper

We met Tom and Amy briefly in Tonga at a Full Moon party.  Finally meeting up with them in the protective anchorage of Ras Banas, Egypt where many boats were waiting out the 25+ knot NW wind.

Another couple that plans to continue on to the Mediterranean.

Capaz

Tod, Juli and their sons Jake and Zach, were a bundle of fun as we shared anchorages from French Polynesia to New Zealand.

Deciding to head back to Portland, they left Capaz in NZ until Tod could sail her back to Hawaii.  Getting back to the routines at home has been fun for the boys, with school friends and activities.

Sarabi

The Cat of all Cats, we met Karen and Barry in French Polynesia tried to keep up with their casual 11 knot average.  They built this boat from scratch and installed the streamlined Aero-Rig, a nice clutter free look.

Sarabi, Barry & Karen are back in Canada enjoying new projects.

Serenity

Jim and Eva, briefly met in Los Frailes, but got to know in La Cruz, Mexico.

Complete novices to sailing, they proved that determination and the will to persevere were their strengths and sailed their 32’ West Sail to Australia.  Now residing in San Diego, they are a “expecting” a new crew member this summer.

Simplicity

We met Garth, Gayle & Nick on the Cop Dock in San Diego, shared some wonderful Baja & Mainland anchorages in Mexico.  Hiking at Puerto Escondito,  boogie boarding at Punta Mita and fun potluck dinners are what we fondly remember  when we think of  Simplicity.

They are now residing in Portland and have Simplicity near by for a quick sail.  We look forward to meeting up with them again, when we return to the North West.

Alcyone

Captain Sugar, & Captain Leslie with their daughters Alyce, Darby along with crew…Robert, Holly, Mary and Robin

shared the Baja with us before they left in February for French Polynesia.  Planning to sail to Hawaii, then Alaska and finally back to

Port Townsend, Washington by August 2006

Salty Dog

We met Brian and Carrie and their two canines, Saddie & Fletcher on the Cop Dock in San Diego.  They quit their jobs and sold the homestead, just like us, looking for a new adventure.  Sharing a few adventures with them, we parted ways in Mexico, they planned to cruise more of the Sea of Cortez while we headed across the Pacific.
