Bone carved tikis with a black pearl. Beco (on right) carves these and asks for $300 each piece, which they sell for $600 each in Papeete.  He also carves the black pearls for necklaces which he sells for $50.  He also likes to trade for alcohol since it’s so expensive here.  I gave him 2 bottle of Gin, 1 huge bottle of Kaluha and 1 vodka for a pearl necklace and one tiki.

Kelly is holding the Mahi Mahi that Victor speared and brought to our boat the second day we arrived in Makemo.  La Kelly met

him on the quay when he helped her tie up the dinghy.  He didn’t speak much English, but was friendly and took El Kelly and a few of the other

cruisers fishing the next day.
